Author and actress Carrie Fisher died at age 60.
Although best known for her role of Princess Leia in the Star Wars franchise, Fisher was also an awarding-winning author, screenwriter, and open about her past encounters with addiction.
Her publicist released the subsequent statement:
It is with a very deep sadness that Billie Lourd confirms that her beloved mother Carrie Fisher passed away at 8:55 this morning. She was loved by the world and she will be missed intensely. Our entire family thanks you for your thoughts and prayers.
Fisher suffered a cardiac incident Friday on a flight from London to Los Angeles. She was in critical state until she passed away Tuesday December 27th.
